01The business problem
Parts of the UBS environment ran on older Java services and legacy backend code. Maintaining and extending them slowed development and made integration, scaling, deployment and new application requirements harder to meet. Replacing the whole platform was not an option: the services sit at the centre of daily operations and connect to enterprise databases and branch-specific systems.
02Our approach
We modernized service by service. Each backend capability was analysed, redesigned and rebuilt in a modern Node.js and TypeScript architecture, then verified against the behaviour of the original Java implementation before going live. This kept operations running throughout the migration.
03What we delivered
- Backend APIs rewritten from Java to Node.js and TypeScript.
- Cleaner, more consistent API structures that are easier to extend.
- Direct integration with the existing Oracle environment.
- Full support for existing business logic and operational processes.
- Services prepared for higher workloads.
- Deployment within LECO-managed servers and infrastructure.
04Working with existing systems
The new services read from and write to the same Oracle databases, respect existing data structures and connect to branch-specific systems exactly as before. Existing users and processes did not need to change, which kept the rollout low-risk.
05Business impact
LECO now has a backend that its teams can maintain and extend faster, built on a modern, widely supported technology stack, without the cost and risk of replacing its core systems. The same approach suits banks and other enterprises that need to modernize while keeping established databases and workflows in place.
